MENLO ANNOUNCES NEW CLIENT SUCCESS:
BALANCE CONSULTING

ANN ARBOR, MI – April 28, 2003Menlo Innovations recently announced the completion of the first phase of software development process transformation for its new client, Ann Arbor-based Balance Consulting. Menlo Innovations is a software development, training, and mentoring company dedicated to the development of software systems using high-tech anthropology® and agile methods. Balance Consulting, founded in Ann Arbor in 1989 by Ilan Gittlen, provides nationwide training, print publications, and software for tax reporting compliance on Form 1099 and Form 1042-S.

Menlo is helping Balance Consulting transform its software development practices to a more agile process that uses scalable programming teams and enables release of any iteration. Phase 1 of Menlo’s services consisted of a series of training courses in software project management, extreme programming and high-tech anthropology®, with associated on-site mentoring.

“Controlling the direction and timing of our software development efforts is critical to delivering a useful product in the marketplace,” said Dennis Carter, Director of Software Operations at Balance Consulting. “Teaming up with Menlo has provided that control and helped to put in place a process to ensure that the needs of our customers are met on a real-time basis.”

Phase 2 will be the development of the High-Tech Anthropology® practice that will interweave clear understanding and prioritization of user and market needs throughout ongoing development of Balance’s Manchester Form 1099 software product suite. Phase 2 also will consist of training and on-site mentoring.

Menlo Innovations Founded in 2001 by Richard Sheridan, Thomas Meloche, James Goebel and Robert Simms, Menlo Innovations specializes in software development process and methodology with a special focus on how to create an agile software development environment called The Software Factory. Menlo develops software for customers using these practices, and transforms existing software teams to the Software Factory approach through training at The Menlo Institute and on-site mentoring.
